I had a problem with the play button on my DJ controller. Sometimes it will not play music. This means that the controller makes no sound. This often happens during my DJ sets and leaves me stuck without music to play on one of the decks – affecting my ability to mix between tracks.
I’ve found a solution to this problem and it’s actually very simple.
Here’s my video of how to fix it or you can read about the fix below.
How to Fix a Broken DJ Controller Play Button
To fix this problem you need a clean cloth (ideally a microfiber cloth with a touch of Isopropyl alcohol on it).
When the play button on one of your decks stops working simply take a cloth and wipe thoroughly the touch surface of that deck. (By ‘the touch surface’ I mean the round platter that emulates vinyl.)
The play button should then work again.
Why it works (my hypothesis)
This fix might sound too good to be true, but it does work, and here’s why.
The touch surface (round platter) is designed to register when your hand touches it, so that it can stop the music playing (just as though you’d placed your hand on a spinning vinyl record, stopping it from playing music).
When music wont play on one of your decks, it is because that deck thinks that your hand is placed upon the touch surface (round platter) when it is not. It likely makes this mistake due to a build up of dirt / residue on the touch surface, which it mistakes for your hand.
By cleaning the touch surface the DJ controller stops sensing the false touch, and the deck works again as intended. The “play / pause” button will now play music again because it isn’t superseded by a false touch registering on the platter.
This fix doesn’t last forever (but you can repeat it as many times as you need to). As the platter becomes dirty again, you’ll need to take a cloth and clean it again.
Just keep a cloth on hand during your DJ sets to workaround this problem.
